About Us :: Philosophy

Noi Ramasut with his wife Arlene is more than equipped to open the doors to a vibrant and innovative concept in dining which has given jaded Cardiffians' palates the wake up call they had been waiting for. The Thai House Restaurant provides a veritable feast, complete with a unique cooking style. Best described as 'kitchen theatre', the method used by The Thai House Restaurant concentrates on fresh quality produce from Thailand and Wales cooked simply in the traditional Thai way, beautifully presented with the emphasis on taste and flavour.
The dining format consists of an extensive but accessible menu of delicious signature dishes that has proved so popular since the inception of the Thai House in 1985. There is an abundance of authentic Thai dishes from all the regions of Thailand which combine Thai herbs, spices and vegetables with prime Welsh beef, lamb and wild boar, pork from the Marches, duck from Norfolk and fish from Cardigan Bay among other places. Dishes are infused with the intense flavours of lemon grass, coriander, galingale, garlic and chillies which make eating Thai such an experience. Welsh lamb in a southern Thai curry must rate as a gastronomic delight for most diners! The range of desserts which include home made ice creams and sorbets provide a stylish finale to an evening of culinary theatre.
The wine list is second to none and enhances the innovative dining experience, by allowing customers to choose from a range especially chosen by Noi to compliment this style of cuisine. Also available by the glass is a selected list of wines, dessert wines and champagne. Welsh Ty Nant water and Black Mountain liqueur sit comfortably alongside the famous Chang beer and new wines from Thailand. The restaurant also boasts one of the best after dinner drinks trolleys in the country.
Recruiting a dedicated team of waiting staff who are both serious and savvy is key in determining The Thai House's place as one of Cardiff's best restaurants. It is this personal attention to detail for which top independent restaurants are renowned. "Ours is a traditional approach," say Noi and Arlene Ramasut, "we expect our customers to return time and time again, and when they do we are able to welcome them by name, know what their favourite dishes are and make them feel special. That is most important."
The original extensive renovation programme to the Guildford Crescent premises was undertaken by Welsh architect Huw Jones who has captured the look and feel of a cutting edge eating establishment within the original magnificence and scale of the Georgian exterior of the Guildford Crescent building. In addition to more modern features, The Thai House has maintained the original fireplaces and installed reclaimed flooring from the St Mary's Street Philharmonic Hall. The interior of the restaurant has a contemporary feel with a colour palette of Siam Orchid, gold and blue set against natural wood panelling and teak furniture, especially designed and imported from Thailand. The ground floor restaurant has an eclectic mix of rich colour fabrics, traditional Thai artefacts and paintings. The perfect backdrop for a colourful yet elegant dining experience.
Noi Ramasut oversees the running of The Thai House together with his wife Arlene. He says: "We want to create an exclusive restaurant with an intimate feel which offers excellent food and first class service in an elegant surrounding. We feel The Thai House Restaurant sets oriental cuisine clearly in the premiere league of fine dining in Wales."
