Arlene Ramasut

Director

Arlene, who is originally from South Wales, grew up in London and went to Southampton University to read modern history, politics and economics. She was one of the early overland travellers in the late 60’s, ending up in Bangkok where she met Noi through mutual friends. She taught at the British School and the International Language Centre before opening her own private language school for business executives and diplomats. She and Noi married in 1971 and they came to Wales the following year. Their plan was to return to Thailand after a few years but with three children all born in Cardiff and attending Welsh medium schools, the years just seemed to slip by! Tamsin, Catryn and Thomas are now all living and working in London but come home to Wales frequently.

Arlene continued in education, teaching in secondary schools and eventually becoming a university lecturer. She studied for a master’s degree and then a doctorate in her field of special educational needs and now works as an independent schools’ inspector.

She has always been closely involved in The Thai House and has responsibility for public relations, staff training and the interior décor. She also works closely with the head chef on presentation.

Noi and Arlene visit Thailand several times a year, staying up to date with developments in Thai cuisine and visiting their Skymarket suppliers. They are particularly proud of the many part time and full time Thai staff who have worked with them over the years who have gone on to be successful in their own careers, whether in the restaurant business or the professions.
